Direct Measures
The article from the University of Wisconsin shares Advantages and Disadvantages of many Direct Measures for Cognitive, Behavioral and Affective Learning. These include Embedded Assessments; Performance-based; Portfolios; Rubrics; Capstones; Standardized Tests; and Pre/Post Assessments.
The University of Wisconsin website also shares information on how these can be used as Embedded Assessments (EA). "EA's make use of the actual work students produce in their courses; also referred to as “classroom-based” or “continuous” assessments. The assessments may simply select from work that students do in various courses or may be designed overtly for assessment purposes and then incorporated into courses. The faculty teaching the courses gives grades to the students, but the work selected for assessment is evaluated with program goals in mind and is not used for grading."
