Graduate Teaching Assistance


This summer, our Center developed additional programs for Graduate Students. So, an article is by Chick & Brame (2015) from Vanderbilt University and is entitled "An Investigation of the Products and Impact of Graduate Student SoTL Programs. seems helpful. This study investigates three graduate-level SoTL programs offered since 2007 at a mid-sized, research-intensive university in the US. The authors identified patterns in SoTL, specifically the choices made by students carrying out their first projects and their perceptions of the impact of the program. They analyzed 72 project posters and 39 impact survey responses. One of the authors most powerful statements was that they “found SoTL programs for graduate students provided significant value to participants, helping them to craft identities as confident, innovative teachers focused on whether their students are actually learning. Ultimately, this study offers insight into novice SoTL work and recommendations for developing introductory SoTL programs on other campuses.
