OER Textbooks
It seems the time of year, where faculty may be creating or updating their syllabus in preparation for the upcoming term. One aspect of the syllabus is typically the Required Textbooks or Learning Materials. Perhaps an option for this section could be to offer Open Educational Resources (OER).
Actually, today the news feed, Inside Higher Ed posted a segment on "Students Spending on Course Materials Plummets, by more than 30% over the past decade. The reason stated is the "increased use of free and lower cost digital and rental materials”. In addition, in May 2018, I blogged a SoTL article, which supports this initiative entitled, "As Good or Better than Commercial Textbooks: Students’ Perceptions and Outcomes from Using Open Digital and Open Print Textbooks."
