Tech and Learning 2023

As we near the end of 2023, I would like to share a compilation of Tech & Learning: Year in Reviewby Bendici (2023) articles from the online practical journal, Tech & Learning: Tools and Ideas to Transform Ed. Hopefully you will be able to connect your teaching approach to one or more of the ideas in these articles. I will share a few that I believe could be helpful in higher ed:

  • Taking Notes vs. Photographing Slides: Wong (2023) found that students who take notes outperform students who photographed slides (photo-takers performed just as poorly as those who didn't take notes at all). The study did not compare longhand to typed note-taking, which has been researched and the results are mixed. The quality matters - If students simply transcribe words instead of engaging in generative processes, they are less likely to learn deeply.
